The Setting Triangle
Do you love quilts that are set on point (AKA Diagonal Set)?
Do you remember the formula for those pesky little triangles?
Do you search through your reference books looking for the formula?
Well-LOOK NO MORE! Just pick up your new Setting Triangle ruler, find the size
of your unfinished block down the side and follow the line to center to see the size of strip you need to cut.

Cut a strip of fabric this width and place The Setting Triangle on the strip with the 90° angle
at the top of your strip and the line along the bottom of the egde of your strip.
Slice on both sides of the triangle. Now flip the triangle (rotate 180°) and make another slice.
The long edge of your setting triangle is on the straight grain.
Add one triangle on each end of your row to set your quilt on point.

Now, cut two triangles from your fabric using the line for a block 1/2" larger than
your unfinished block (e.g.: for a 7 1/2" unfinished block, use the line of the 8" un-
finished block). Slice these two triangles in half from the 90° angle to the base of the triangle.

These are your four corner setting triangles. The outside edges are on the
straight grain to minimize stretch. Add each triangle to the four corners of your quilt top.

Press carefully, then align your long ruler along the edge with the 1/4" line along the intersections.
Square up your quilt. A "little" fudge factor has been allowed to accomodate
the difference in each individual sewing habits.

I am very proud of this new ruler. And it has been made by the best in the business, Omnigrid.

For years I have avoided putting quilts on point because of the chore of trying to figure out
what size square to cut to slice in an X. Basically, I am very lazy and this old brain just won't retain
information like it used to. Why I didn't think of making this triangle ruler before now is beyond me.
I hope you will love it as much as I do. You are going to be seeing a lot more quilts on point now.
