This will be an ongoing project but here is how the idea started: Feb 4, 2009 - My mom just received a call from our Governor's mother asking for quilts for our troops that the governor wants to give to injured military members in a ceremony in April. That call sparked the idea for my mom and I to head up an effort called "Tops for our Troops". There are many more troops than just the select few that will receive the quilts from our governor. The largest military hospital is located in San Antonio which is 5 hours south of us. Once we have a nice collection, we will deliver quilts to deserving military personnel. For now, she and I will be doing the quilting and depending on the response we may start calling for other quilters. What better way to show your appreciation to the sacrifices that have been made for our freedom. It is just like sending a personal hug. How can you help? There are several ways:
Requirements: High quality 100% cotton. Colors don't have to be red / white / blue, but colors that will be desirable to a variety of people.
Supplies can be send to:
Gina Reddin 185 CR 414 Merkel, TX 79536 email: gina.reddin@gmail.com OR Kathryn Rister PO Box 208 Tye, TX 79563 email:quiltkitsandquarters@gmail.com
As we get our quilts finished we will post pictures below and hopefully some day get pictures of the soldiers with the quilts. |
